OUR HISTORY
Vernon Hill Baptist Church was birthed from a humble yet powerful beginning — a series of heartfelt prayer meetings held in homes throughout Allenville Township, Person County, and soon found a more permanent home on the farm of Henry and Rosa Green. What began as a mission soon became a church, and by 1890, the congregation gave it a name that would echo through generations: Vernon Hill Baptist Church. Under the leadership of their first pastor, Rev. Ragland, the church was officially organized and rooted in faith.

In 1926, under Rev. Joe Lyons, the church played a pivotal role in the establishment of the County Line Missionary Baptist Association, further cementing Vernon Hill's influence and legacy in the region.

Over the decades, Vernon Hill Baptist Church has continued to grow spiritually and physically:
-
In 1951, the sanctuary was bricked and upgraded with an oil heating system.
-
In 1972, a Fellowship Hall was added.
-
In 1995, the street name was changed from Webb Chapel Road to Vernon Hill Church Road in honor of the church’s enduring presence.
-
Between 2006 and 2009, a dedicated expansion planning committee led the reconstruction and expansion of the church building, completed in 2009, to meet the growing needs of the ministry.
